England v Sri Lanka, 2nd ODI: Stats - Record partnership between Hales and Roy gives England resounding 10-wicket win over SL

After England and Sri Lanka  played out one of the closest games in the first ODI, the second ODI at Edgbaston, Birmingham was a stark contrast in comparison as England dominated to take a 1-0 lead after a 10-wicket win. Sri Lanka had won the toss and chosen to bat first and put up a fairly decent total of 254, after half-centuries from Dinesh Chandimal and Upul Tharanga.

However, what ensued was some brilliant batting by the England openers as they took their team across the finishing line, thus setting up a record chase in ODIs. Jason Roy and Alex Hales scored centuries as they powered England to an emphatic win over Sri Lanka.

Here are the major stats from the game:

0 – Kusal Mendis’ dismissal for a duck was the first for a Sri Lankan batsman batting at Number 3 since Kumar Sangakkara's duck against India in November 2014.

2 – This was only the second time that both England openers have scored centuries each in ODIs. The last time this happened was in 2003 when Marcus Trescothick and Vikram Solanki scored centuries against South Africa.

4 – Dinesh Chandimal and Angelo Mathews were involved in their fourth 50-plus partnership in ODIs this year. They have added 93, 88, 64 and 82 in the four innings.

4 – Dinesh Chandimal has four 50-plus scores against England in 11 ODI innings. This is the joint highest for him, along with four 50-plus scores against Australia in 14 innings.

5 – Kusal Perera was dismissed for a run-out for the fifth time in 53 ODI innings he has played.

27 – Seekkuge Prasanna conceded 27 runs in the 29th over of the innings. This is the second most conceded by a bowler against England. Yuvraj Singh conceded 30 runs at The Oval in 2007.

53* – Upul Tharanga's knock was the first half-century by a Sri Lankan batsman batting at Number 7 since Ajantha Mendis’ 72 against India in 2012.

66 – The number of runs that Sri Lanka scored in their last ten overs. In the first ODI, they had scored 61 runs.

This is the second highest for any pair, after 1249 runs by former Zimbabwean pair Alistair Campbell and Guy Whittall. Mathews and Chandimal's highest partnership in ODIs is 93.
