England v India 2014 - 1st Test, Day 4: Facts and figures
India entered the day 4 with a chance to force a win in this first Test and in turn gain an advantage in this five-match series, but the overnight last wicket pair of Joe Root and James Anderson continued to frustrate the visitors. Joe Root quickly moved on to his century with back-to-back boundaries off Mohammed Shami as India posed no threat whatsoever to the home team after an impressive performance in day 3.
At lunch, the scoreboard reads 485/9, with Joe Root on 143 off 278 and James Anderson on 81 off 118. Anderson finally edged one to Shikhar Dhawan in slips of Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the second session and India batted briskly to reach tea at 57 for 1. Murali Vijay and Cheteshwar Pujara’s 91-run partnership steadied India in the last session.
