England and Pakistan have locked horns thrice in the global showpiece event during the course of the past 17 years, and the Three Lions have managed to emerge victorious in each of the three instances.
The two sides first met during a league-stage match of the 2009 T20 World Cup at The Kia Oval in London. It turned out to be a one-sided affair as the host nation romped home by 48 runs.
Interestingly, this proved to be the defeat for Pakistan in the 2009 WC, as the Younis Khan-led side went on to win the marquee event by defeating South Africa and Sri Lanka in the knockouts.
The two sides met again a year later in the Caribbean, where England again managed to emerge victorious, this time by six wickets.
However, their most memorable clash came in the final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
Batting first, Pakistan huffed and puffed its way to 137/8, as England’s Sam Curran wreaked havoc by claiming three wickets for just 12 runs.
Chasing 138 on a seaming pitch, England lost three wickets for just 45 runs. However, a calm-and- collected knock by Ben Stokes (52* off 49) ensured that the Three Lions romped home by five wickets to claim their second T20 World Cup Title.
