Eoin Morgan and James Taylor major movers as ICC release updated ODI batsmen rankings

Eoin Morgan was the leading run-getter in the ODI series scoring 278 runs

England skipper Eoin Morgan and fellow teammate James Taylor made huge progress in the updated ODI bastmen rankings released by the International Cricket Council (ICC) yesterday. However, the only change in the Top was the arrival of Australian opener Aaron Fich at the No 10 spot.

The South African dup of AB de Villiers and Hashim Amla continue to occupy the top two spots in the updated rankings made public after the conclusion of the 5-match ODI series between England and Australia. Though the 2015 World Cup champions won the series 3-2, it was the England duo of Morgan and Taylor who made the most progress.

Morgan retired hurt in the final ODI at Old Trafford after being struck by a sharp bouncer from Mitchell Starc but was the undoubted star of the series with scores of 38, 85, 62 and 92 in the first four matches. He was the top run-getter in the series with 278 runs and the outstanding form has seen him jump 11 places to the 21st position.

Taylor was the 2nd top run-getter with 246 runs and that saw him rocket 29 places to a caree-high 55th spot. English opener Jason Roy scored 201 runs to break into the Top 100 with a jump of 128 places upto the 98th spot.

As far as the Australians are concerned, Man of the Series Mitchell Marsh has been rewarded for his fine performances with a jump of 16 places to the 65th spot. Joining him is Matthew Wade whose 164 runs in the series sees the wicketkeeper batsman jump 23 spots to the 72nd spot and Finch who played his first matches for Australia since sustaining an injury during the IPL. The 28-year-old made scores of 53, 15 & 70* in the last three ODIs and that has seen him displace Joe Root, who was rested for the ODI series, at the No 10 spot.

Among the players who missed out on making a move up the table are Australian skipper Steve Smith and George Bailey, with the latter failing to break into the Top 10 by remaining at the 11th spot in spite of amassing 218 runs in the five ODIs against England.

With the above series being the only internationals in the last week, the list is pretty much the same with the Indian trio of Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan and MS Dhoni keeping their place in the Top 10.

Here are the Top 10 rankings for ODI bastmen in full.
