Ex-IPL player Tejaswi Yadav becomes Bihar's new Deputy Chief Minister
The political brass of Bihar witnessed a humble team man Tejaswi Yadav starting his new stint as a politician in the cabinet of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. The soft-spoken former Delhi Daredevil member took oath as deputy chief minister of Bihar on Friday to serve his people with the same humility and modestness with which he has lived his life and played his cricket.
He has been elected from Raghoupur Vidhan Sabha seat of Bihar Legislative assembly. The yongest child of a family of nine children, Tejaswi hails from a family that has a good track record for the upliftment of underprivileged and he too believes in social justice for all especially the marginalised minorities.
The son of Former chief minister of Bihar the charismatic Lalu Yadav, Tejaswi had made a name for himself in his youth as a cricketer with abilities (not that he is old now). He got selected for Indian Premier League franchise Delhi Daredevils in 2009.
He did not have a illustrious career in cricket and played one first-class game, two List A matches and four T20s. He used to ball seam up, leg and off spin both a little and was known to be a handy batsman down the order. If sources are to be believed he was paid around 3 to 4 million by the Delhi IPL franchise.
But what set this man apart was his spirit to be able to contribute to the common cause and all done with the reticence of a Buddhist monk. He faces a new challenge in his life as a politician which can be a great platorm for him to immortalise his name on the canvas of Bihar politics.
The Delhi Public School student certainly looks to have all the ethics and the blessing and guidance of his father, the statesman. His ascendance to this new role might trade well for cricket in Bihar too as the Bihar Cricket association is not recognised by the BCCI which jeopardises the career of many aspiring cricketers from the state.
