Stats: Fastest to 300 wickets and 2000 runs 'double' in Test cricket

Mitchell Johnson jumps in delight after picking up his 300th Test wicket

In what is becoming a day of landmarks in cricket, Mitchell Johnson picked up the wicket of Jonny Bairstow on Day 2 of the 3rd Ashes Test between England and Australia to reach the landmark of 300 Test wickets.

He is the fifth Australian bowler to reach this mark for Australia after Shane Warne, Glenn McGrath, Dennis Lillee and Brett Lee. In the process, he became just the 2nd Australian and 12th player overall to achieve the ‘double’ of 300 wickets and 2000 runs in Test cricket history.

He became the 3rd fastest to achieve the feat by reaching the milestone in his 69th Test match. Richard Hadlee was the quickest to reach the landmark playing in his 61st Test match while Imran Khan did it in his 68th.

The list features three cricketers from India in the form of Kapil Dev, Harbhajan Singh and Anil Kumble. New Zealand and Pakistan, like Australia, have two representatives each with Richard Hadlee and Daniel Vettori for the Black Caps while Wasim Akram and Imran Khan achieved this double for the 1992 World Cup Champions. Ian Botham (England), Shaun Pollock (South Africa) and Chaminda Vaas (Sri Lanka) rounds off the list.
