Finn to make a comeback
Steven Finn, who was ruled out for the series against Pakistan last October due to a bone stress injury in his left foot, has been called up for the upcoming series against South Africa. He displayed great precision and pace for the England Lions recently in the UAE.
Finn was initially not selected for the 16-man tour party since the selectors didn’t want any unfit player to be a part of the squad. Finn’s entry will be a big boost for the English team as they face the South Africans at their home. South Africa is currently the No. 1 side in Test cricket.
Steven Finn is still unlikely to play the first Test against SA on Boxing Day in Durban, where Mark Footitt is likely to debut for England alongside Jimmy Anderson and Stuart Broad.
Finn’s brilliant show against Pakistan A this weekend confirmed his fitness when he took 3 wickets for 22 runs in the first match and another wicket in the next one.
Finn was really confident for a comeback and said, “I've been really pleased with the way things have gone with the Lions, I've bowled my overs and my foot has come through fine. I'm excited by the prospect of linking up with the team out in South Africa."
Fellow players are happy about the fast bowler’s return, Bairstow said, “It's fantastic news, Finny coming back after what was a really disappointing injury for him after bowling a fantastic spell in Sharjah and really hitting his straps over there.
"Everyone is delighted to see Finny back to fitness. He's been bowling well over in the UAE from what we've heard. Having him joining the camp tonight is a massive boost for all of us; he's a really popular guy.
"The skills that he brings and the difference of bowling he brings is unprecedented. He's 6ft 7in and coming from that height there's going to be a lot of pace and bounce which is another asset to us."
The first Test starts on December 26th in Durban. Recovering from injury, Finny will be an important player for the English against the Proteas. England is up against the best test team at their province, Finn will play an important role when he makes a comeback.
