IPL 2014 Auctions: Five international players who can get the highest bid
Glenn Maxwell
Glenn Maxwell, nicknamed ‘The Big Show‘, has great chances of becoming the million-dollar baby again. Hailing from the Victorian suburb, Maxwell has been thrown into the auction pool as Mumbai Indians had the option of plenty to choose from. Teams will fight out for him, that’s a certainty for sure. His power hitting blended with his right arm off-spin will turn the tide in his favour. He belongs to that breed of cricketers for whom IPL is the best platform to exhibit their talent.
Consider a situation wherein a team needs some 70-80 odd runs with 5 overs to go, players like Maxwell have the ability to steer the team to victory. And his string of performances in the recent times will tempt franchises to cash in on him, in the upcoming IPL auction. Teams like Delhi Daredevils who have plenty left in their purse will go full throttle on the Australian big-hitter.
Mitchell Johnson
Well, the big lad from Australia has made a comeback, which can be rated as one of the best ever by any sportsman playing any sport. He has reinvented himself, buried his past, and has made a strong statement, especially after the recently concluded Ashes. Another Mumbai player, who will have plenty of takers after having been thrown into the auction pool . He is the man in form and certainly falls in line with players like Dale Steyn, Lasith Malinga and Sunil Narine – who are armoured with the ability to turn the tables at any moment of this batsmen oriented game. Everbody wants a bowler in their line up, who has the ability to slow things down by picking wickets upfront. The batsmen will have a mindset to see off their overs, which is an added advantage.
Corey Anderson
Corey Anderson has the potential to hit those towering sixes. The Kiwi allrounder has come into the limelight at a very crucial time. Recently, he smashed a ton off 36 balls against West Indies. Yes, you heard it right. Who in the world would not want to have such an explosive batsman in their squad? IPL is a platform which has a history of rewarding hard hitting batsmen, and for him right things have happened at the right time. Had he not hit the fastest century, he might have lost out on becoming the highest grosser. If not the highest, he is a certainty to fetch million dollars in his kitty.
Yuvraj Singh
Yuvi, as we all know, is a big match player. He made a gritty comeback in the one-off T20 against Australia but his form faded away in the matches that followed. Consequently, he has been dropped from the Indian squad. T20 is the perfect format for Yuvraj Singh to make a statement. He has never had a glorious IPL. But, this one could prove to be one. Yuvraj has lost a few kilos, and has got back in shape. His fitness, his batting, bowling and fielding might attract any buyer to spend some extra dollars. I will rate Yuvraj as the trump card of IPL 7.
Virender Sehwag
The Nawab of Najafgarh has not had his best of days in the past couple of years. It has got to a situation where Ashish Nehra has averaged better than him in the Ranji Trophy. Things can’t get any worse. But hold on, Viru means business. He knows it is his last chance to make a comeback, if he wants to don the Indian jersey for one final time. Delhi has released him on grounds of his form.
Point taken, but Sehwag is the dark horse. He has to open to get back to form. On his day, he is on the same lines as Chris Gayle. The IPL team owners will have to take this brave move. And if they are thinking on the same lines as I am, then Virender Sehwag will startle a million writers who have written him off. This is a new beginning for the dashing opener, lets hope he cashes in on it.
