Flop playing XI of 2024 T20 World Cup ft. Kane Williamson & Josh Hazlewood

The 2024 T20 World Cup culminated with India prevailing over South Africa to win the title on Saturday, June 29 in Barbados. Batting first, India posted a formidable total of 176-7, courtesy of Virat Kohli (76). In response, the Proteas fell short by seven runs, with Hardik Pandya (3-20) emerging as the pick of the bowlers.

The tournament saw some top teams like Pakistan and New Zealand fail to progress to the Super 8, while Australia and West Indies couldn't clinch a semifinal spot. Notably, co-hosts USA surprised by making it to the Super 8.

During the showpiece event, some players disappointed Regardless of their team's performances, they didn't contribute well enough to make a difference.

Top order: Steven Taylor, Tanzid Hasan, Kane Williamson

USA's opening batter, Steven Taylor couldn't provide a strong start to the team. The left-hander garnered just 74 runs in six innings at an average of 12.33.

Bangladesh opener Tanzid Hasan couldn't match the potency required in the T20 format. He scored 76 runs at a dismal average of 10.86, with a top score of 35 against the Netherlands.

The most experienced New Zealand batter and captain, Kane Williamson found unique ways to get dismissed in the tournament. He scored 28 runs at an average of 14, which played a role in the Blackcaps' early exit from the tournament.


Middle order: Fakhar Zaman, Bas de Leede, Matthew Wade (wk), Dasun Shanaka, Sam Curran

Although an opening batter, Fakhar Zaman came in at No. 4 at the 2024 T20 World Cup, which hurt Pakistan's chances to get quick starts in the powerplay. Zaman struggled to time the ball and garnered only 33 runs in four innings at a dismal average of 8.25.

Bas de Leede, the Netherlands' premier all-rounder failed to contribute in both departments. He scored only 20 runs and took three wickets in four innings, which resulted in the Dutch failing to progress to the Super 8.

Australia's wicket-keeper Matthew Wade endured a rough patch, garnering only 27 runs in four innings at an average of 13.50.

Former Sri Lanka T20I captain Dasun Shanaka had a tournament to forget. He scored only 12 runs and took two wickets in three games.

Meanwhile, Sam Curran could not reap fruit for the English side, as the left-arm pacer could pick up only three wickets in five games. He could not finish the game against South Africa (10* off 7) and was dismissed for only 2 against India in the semifinal.


Bowlers: Ali Khan, Josh Hazlewood, Mark Wood

The T20 experience of Ali Khan could not be helpful for the USA throughout the tournament. The right-arm pacer scalped only three wickets in six games at an expensive economy of 9.36.

Josh Hazlewood had an indifferent canpaign at the 2024 T20 World Cup. He picked up only four wickets in six games at an average of 36.25.

Although England sealed a semifinal spot, Mark Wood was dropped from the side after the defeat to South Africa. He picked up three wickets in five games at an economy of 8.69.
