Former captain backs Pakistan to end India's World Cup streak
What's the story?
Like all the other nine teams, Pakistan is gearing up for the upcoming 2019 ICC World Cup, which is scheduled to begin from the last week of May in England. Recently, Pakistan Cricket Board announced that Sarfaraz Ahmed will lead the side in the mega event.
Meanwhile, former Pakistan cricketer, Moin Khan on Tuesday expressed that the current national team has the ability to trounce India in the forthcoming World Cup and break the ever-long jinx.
“This present team is very capable of recording a first win over India in a World Cup because there is talent, there is depth and variety and Sarfaraz Ahmed has now gelled the squad well,” Moin said on GTV News channel.
In case you didn't know...
The Asian cricket giants have played each other six times in World Cup history thus far and Pakistan is yet to open their winning account. The arch-rivals are set to face for one for time at Old Trafford on June 16.
The heart of the matter
Showing confidence in the Sarfaraz Ahmed-led side, former wicket-keeper batsman Moin Khan said that when Pakistan did it in the Champions Trophy, they can repeat the same in the World Cup too.
“I say this because our boys beat them (India) in the Champions Trophy two years back and I just feel that in English conditions in June we have better bowlers,”
"This should be a very interesting World Cup and I am backing Pakistan to beat India. Our boys are in good spirits and it is good they will go into the competition after having played ODI matches against South Africa, Australia and England,” he added.
Moin appeared for Pakistan in 69 Tests and 219 ODI matches.
What's next
The World Cup begins in England on May 30, 2019, before which both teams will get ample amount of game time.
