Former Indian cricketer VVS Laxman robbed of Rs. 10 lakhs
Former Indian batsman VVS Laxman has been robbed of Rs. 10 lakhs from his bank account by a man from Malda in Kolkata on Saturday.
The 32-year old robber has been identified as Izazul Sheikh. It was found that he had deposited the amount in the Salt Lake branch of a nationalised bank after the robbery. He has now been arrested by the Bidhannagar police.
The Andra police made the swift recovery possible by informing the Bidhannagar police of the robbery from Laxman’s bank account and the money being deposited in the Salt Lake branch.
Sheikh had opened the bank account some time back but did not make any transactions for a long period of time. When, on Wednesday, suddenly Rs. 10 lakhs was credited to his account, the bank manager took to informing the police, who joined the dots and arrested him.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Detective Department) Arnab Ghosh said: “Following the information from the bank as well as intimation from the Hyberabad police, we laid a trap and apprehended Sheikh. He was brought before a court which sent him to eight days police custody.”
