Chennai Superkings went on to win the 2011 IPL edition

The fourth edition of the Indian Premier League was held between 8th April 2011 and 28th May 2011. Two new franchises, Pune Warriors India and Kochi Tuskers Kerala, were added to the list, increasing the team tally to 10 and there were a total of 74 matches played. Though every team played 14 matches in the league, the 'play-offs' were introduced to provide the top two teams with an extra opportunity to qualify for the finals.

The Royal Challengers Bangalore topped the table with the Chennai Super Kings finishing second and the Mumbai Indians third. The final was played between the Royal Challngers Bangalore and the Chennai SuperKings at the Chepauk stadium in Chennai, with the latter crowned champions for the second consecutive time.

There were some very impressive performances with the bat as well as the ball, but let's take a look at the highest run-getter from each team.

#1 Royal Challengers Bangalore - Chris Gayle (608 runs)

RCB’s start to the fourth edition was poor, losing three of first four matches. Chris Gayle had gone unsold at the 2011 auctions and was then dropped from the West Indies squad. But the Jamaican was then added to the squad to replace Dirk Nannes, who was ruled out due to an injury. In his first match, against the Kolkata Knight Riders, Gayle proved he was not done with an unbeaten 102 in just 55 balls. He scored his second century against the Kings XI Punjab and had decent outings against Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indian and Pune Warriors. He ended the season with 608 runs in 12 matches at a strike rate of 183.13 and won the ‘Orange Cap’.
