Gambhir flies home from Ahmedabad Test after grandmother’s death
Gautam Gambhir has flown back home from the Ahmedabad Test, after he received news of his grandmother passing away. His participation in the rest of the 1st Test as well as the remaining part of the series is unclear and the BCCI has said that no decision has been made yet on when the opener will be back.
Confirming the development, media manager Vinod Deshpande said that the opener took a flight to Delhi this morning after hearing the news of his grandmother`s death.
“I don’t know when he will be back. It probably will depend on what happens today in the match,” Deshpande said.
Reserve Ajinkya Rahane came as a substitute for Gambhir when play started at the Sardar Patel Stadium in Motera on Sunday.
