Ganesh Satish opts to play for Vidarbha after limited chances with Karnataka
Ganesh Satish, the right handed batsmen from Karnataka is about to switch loyalties to Vidarbha citing more oppourtunities to play. The 26-year old mentioned that he didn’t get a longer run for Karnataka last season that made him to look for a better option for his career.
"I think I didn't get a fair run in the last season, so there was uncertainty about my future. I thought moving out and playing as a professional was the best thing for my career at the moment. Hope it comes off," Satish told ESPNcricinfo.
He has scored 2445 runs for Karnataka in 66 innings.
"Basically, I couldn't play in my position for most of the season. I had to bat at No. 7 in quite a few games. And even after scoring a hundred in the final, I didn't get a good run in the one-dayers."
Satish scored 117 batting at No.3 in Karnataka’s first innings and did not bat in the second innings when Karnataka clinched their first Ranji Trophy in 15 seasons.
The right-hander was dropped for both the quarterfinal against Uttar Pradesh and semifinal against Punjab before being recalled for the final. Satish prefers to bat at No.3 but was asked to bat lower down the order by the Karnataka management. Satish added that Karnataka State Cricket Association secretary Brijesh Patel asked him to stay when he took the issue to him. But he mentioned that it is important to play matches regularly.
"He was very supportive and advised me to stay on. In the end, considering the stage of my career, I thought it was best to get a consistent run with a team in order to bring out the best in me and decided to move on," said Satish who averages 43.66 per dismissal over his first class career.
On his chances with Vidarbha, Satish said: "I am sure it's going to be a completely different challenge to play as a professional. Expectations would be a lot more but at least I will have a good chance to prove myself. There would be no uncertainty about my position in the team, so it would be up to me to justify it and I am looking forward to it.”
Satish debuted for his state in the 2008-09 season and didn’t fail to score a century for next five seasons.
