Gautam Gambhir takes to Facebook, talks about KKR, Dhoni and many other issues
Gautam Gambhir is an enigma, he is a person who loves to maintain a sombre face at all times off the field. He is an explosive character when he takes the field and his combative nature always come under the scrutiny.
The southpaw took to Facebook in an attempt to interact with fans and tried to answer as many questions as possible. The session started with a question about the knock played by Gambhir during the 2011 World Cup final. The left-hander walked in at number 3 as India lost Virender Sehwag in the very first over and compiled a match-winning 97 to help the hosts clinch the coveted title.
"It was disappointing to miss the 100 in the final, but I hope that this country which is more obsessed with 100 could remember the 97 and the fact that we won the match and trophy. No one remembers that Mahela Jayawardene scored 100, I am more than happy with the 97 as it contributed to the victory of the team," Gambhir said.
The Kolkata Knight Riders skipper also spoke about the IPL next season and said that he is looking forward to the season.
"I am very excited as it is a great opportunity for me and KKR, as if we win we can be the first side to win the league thrice," Gambhir added.
Gambhir also spoke about the bowling coach for KKR in the upcoming season as the post is lying vacant following the withdrawal of Wasim Akram.
"We haven't decided the name for the bowling coach. Hopefully, we can get the right guy who can help the bowlers, especially in a tournament where the bowlers are put under a lot of pressure," the KKR captain added.
When asked to name his favourite cricketer, Gambhir said that he never had any favourites as he never believed in comparing cricketers.
However, there was a question which took the cake during the session. There have been numerous reports of a potential rift between Gautam Gambhir and MS Dhoni. There are also many rumours which indicate that MS Dhoni was the primary reason for the ouster of Gambhir from the Indian team.
Gambhir was very vocal in his response and quashed all such theories.
“There’s no rivalry between me and Dhoni. I feel whenever we’ve played for India, irrespective of the differences of opinions we’ve had, the ultimate aim to make has been to try and make the country proud and try and help our country win." Gambhir said.
"There are bound be differences in opinion, that happens in any sphere of life, if you are in a group, be it in a family or anywhere else, but until the time your goal is to make your country, I don’t think there will ever be any differences. I think he’s (Dhoni) a fantastic player, a fantastic human being.
“We’ve had our best moments of our life together, whether it’s winning the World T20 in 2007 or the World Cup in 2011, being No 1 Test side in the world. Our ambition and our goal has always been the same,” Gambhir further added.
Gambhir also said that he has never played for selection but aims to give his best for whichever side he is playing.
"I have got no regrets, till the time I am honest I am content. My aim is to make my fans proud at all times," he further added.
