Gautam Gambhir disappointed over inconvenience caused to KKR's fans

The KKR team at Eden Gardens

The champions of IPL 2014 Kolkata Knight Riders were felicitated on Monday by the West Bengal government at the Eden Gardens.

Unfortunately, the situation ran out of control as nearly 60,000 fans gathered to greet the winning team that defeated Kings XI Punjab to lift their second IPL trophy. Policemen were present in numbers and the stampede just outside the stadium almost ruined the celebrations for the Shahrukh Khan-owned franchise.

Indian opening batsmen and Kolkata Knight Riders’s captain Gautam Gambhir said he was disappointed over the incident and admitted that the fans do not deserve this. Gambhir expressed his views in his column for Hindustan Times.

"I must say I was disappointed by the inconvenience KKR's felicitation ceremony caused to Kolkatans. As it is cricket fans in India, who are the most important stakeholders, are not treated well.

"To make matters worse there was lathi charge on innocents. God-willing my KKR team wins many more trophies but as far as I am concerned we're done with such felicitations," mentioned Gambhir.

Also in the column, he expressed his happiness after being picked for the England tour.

He said, “Here I am with the second IPL trophy now looking at the next challenge – win Test matches in England. This will be my third Test tour of England. There is so much to like about cricket in UK that it is almost criminal not to do well there.”
