Gautam Gambhir looking forward to the pink ball challenge

Gautam Gambhir, the India Blue skipper for the ongoing Duleep Trophy in Greater Noida, has said that he is excited about facing up to the pink ball and admitted that as professionals, they will need to get used to the different conditions.

“I know the pink ball does move a bit, but as an opener I have to deal with it. That challenge is always there, even against the red SG or Kookaburra balls. However, as professional cricketers, we must be ready. And the spinners have to get used to gripping the pink ball.

“It (pink ball cricket) is very exciting, especially when lights are on. I am looking forward to it,” the left-handed batsman said.

It proved to be a bowler’s match between India Blue and India Green in the previous outing, but the Kolkata Knight Riders captain wasn’t willing to dwell too much on what happened then and admitted that having the right mindset is what was the most vital aspect.

“I am not reading too much into it. Maybe the players were a bit nervous considering that it was the first day of the domestic season. Once the nerves go away and you hit the game mode, things do get easy. I haven’t seen the wicket yet, but having the right mindset is important,” he said.

Gambhir’s India Blue will play their first match against India Red on Monday.
