Gautam Gambhir on Virat Kohli's captaicy: "No comments...thank you."

Gautam Gambhir was in the capital to launch new Medicash cards, where he shared his views on current Indian performance. Gautam Gambhir refuted the suggestions that fatigue, due to excessive cricket, was the reason behind India’s two consecutive losses in the ongoing Tri series in the West Indies.

Gambhir said: “Not at all…if you talk about fatigue, then it should not only affect the Indian team but also the other teams. They should also get affected by it. Sri Lanka is playing the same amount of cricket as India. If other team has played well, we must acknowledge it. Their efforts should be recognized.”

India’s tri-series campaign is now in disarray after a huge defeat against Sri Lanka by 161-runs at Kingston last night. Having sent Lankans into the bat, Indians first allowed Lankans to score a massive 348-1 in 50 overs, thus laying the foundation for the latest defeat. This defeat came on the back of another loss at the hands of host- West Indies.

However, Gambhir also suggested not to read too much into these defeats as they are part and parcel of the game.

“It happens in every sport, there are bad and good phases and these things happen. It’s part and parcel of cricket,” said Gambhir on the sidelines of a function here.

Gambhir refrained from anwering the question on Virat Kohli’s captaincy. When he was thrown a question about Kohli’s captaincy he presented the straight bat, saying: “No comments…thank you.”

Gambhir also praised BCCI’s Tour Programme and Fixtures Committee’s decision to revamp the Ranji Trophy format.

From next season onwards  Ranji Trophy matches will be played only during weekends while the gap between the fixtures will be minimum four days and every team will play four ‘home’ and four ‘away’ games in the league phase.

“It’s a good concept and the BCCI has done a right thing. It would be good to have four days gap and matches taking place on weekends. I support the steps taken by the BCCI,” he signed off.
