Gillespie in selection dilemma ahead of Yorkshire's busy summer season

Yorkshire squad has been strengthened with the inclusion of Jonny Bairstow and John Root, and also the return of Tim Bresnan strengthens the squad further. Also Jack Brooks from Northamptonshire and Plunkett from Durham make way into the squad.

However Yorkshire team Coach Jason Gillespie has severe selection headache ahead of the LV = County Championship.  “We have got a few selection dilemmas, which is great,” he said. “There were times last year where selection was very easy.

“But this year, not so much and that is what we are after. As you know, we have recruited some wonderful seamers, who will play an important role for us this year.

“All our seamers know that, with three distinct formats of the game, it is very difficult to play every game in all forms. We need a squad mentality and if we want to challenge big teams in Division One, we cannot rely on two or three to do all the work.

“We have got plenty of options; we are very excited about our squad. People are questioning the depth of our batting, but as support staff we don’t see that at all.

“We see a lot of strength in our batting. We have got a lot of players and have faith in our players to step in.”

Yorkshire have a busy summer ahead with a three-day friendly match against Leeds Barford MCCU tomorrow. Jason Gillespie been is confident of his team performing well and he’s desperately looking forward to the match.

“We are all set; we have done all the work,” he said. “It’s time to play now, the lads have been excellent. Barbados was a good opportunity to put into practice what the lads have done in training.

He also talked about the effort they had put in the Barbados where toured as pre-season schedule. “They have worked hard on their games and worked hard in the gym. Barbados was great and we have had a good week of training this week so we are looking forward to Friday against the students.”
