Glenn Maxwell returns to Hampshire for T20s

Glenn Maxwell has had a good stint with Hampshire for two years.

Australia’s all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, who had tasted success with Hampshire for two years, will return to the team for the Natwest T20 blast. Maxwell could also appear in other formats of the game for Hampshire, but it all depends on the availability of South Africa pacer Kyle Abbott.

Maxwell will be taking part in the England County after his stint with Kings XI Punjab for the IPL. Since IPL schedule is likely to clash with Natwest T20 fixture, Maxwell could miss the first four T20 matches of Hampshire.

Maxwell, who previously appeared for the team in 2012, played an important role in their title win by scoring 179 runs at a strike-rate of 175.49. “I’m really looking forward to re-joining Hampshire after a year with Surrey in the T20s,” Maxwell said. “I’ve made a lot of close friends from the Hampshire squad and management and I look forward to being part of another successful season with them.”

Giles White, the director of cricket, was also pleased to have Maxwell back in the side. He caught the attention of him with a remarkable century for Victoria in the Sheffield Shield match against New South Wales. He truly deserves credit for the century as he walked in at 9/6, and from there on, he went on to score a splendid hundred.

“It’s great to have Maxi back with us, he is an extremely popular figure here both amongst the playing group and with the supporters. His all-round qualities make him a great fit in what is shaping up to be an exciting T20 squad.”

It will be interesting to see how many of players are able to attract the Natwest T20 blast as it is played from mid-May till early August. And Maxwell’s team-mate Aaron Finch has been singed by Yorkshire for this season.
