Glenn Maxwell involved in Twitter altercation with Indian fans over WT20 opener
The whole cricketing world watched in shock on Tuesday as hosts India capitulated to New Zealand in the World T20 opening match, utterly unable to deal with the spin on offer at the Nagpur track. The script looked to have been set in stone when the Kiwis were dismissed for 126, but very few had predicted what would happen in the second innings.
New Zealand played three spinners in their team against India – Nathan McCullum, Mitchell Santner and Ish Sodhi – an indication that new Blackcaps captain Kane Williamson is a master at reading playing conditions. Spin accounted for 9 Indian wickets as the hosts crawled along to 79 runs in 18 overs before folding up.
Australia will be meeting New Zealand at Dharamshala on Friday, and so Glenn Maxwell was justifiably following the match with considerable surprise. However, one comment he made cut some Indian fans to the quick.
New Zealand beating them at their own game? Stacked team with spin and off speed bowlers. https://t.co/5hx5U42KEu

An Indian fan, who was following the match with as much shock, and some more personal investment, took offence at Maxwell’s comment, and replied to him in a not-so-polite manner, also invoking God at the same time.

Maxwell replied to the fan in the only way possible, playing along.
Good point mate. India do need Dhoni to play a classic here. #idefinitelyunderstandyou #nawwwt https://t.co/V621Z59OuE

The fan, unfortunately, did not get the joke.

When another Indian fan told Maxwell that he was being abused and so he should stop replying, he still played along. And so, Maxi won the day yet again.
He abused me?!? But why?!? #MaxiHasHurtFeelings... https://t.co/W0gULTDRoc
