Virender Sehwag was full of praises for his Kings X1 Punjab teammate Glenn Maxwell, whose attitude and his dressing room approach have impressed the out-of-favour Indian opening batsman.

Maxwell has scored 294 runs in his 4 matches so far in IPL 2014, with his only real failure coming in the 4th match against Kolkata Knight Riders where he was dismissed for just 15 runs. He has scores of 95, 89 and 95 in the first three matches.

“It is great to have Maxwell with us in the team. After the match, he forgets what he did on the field, and is very humble,” Sehwag said.

The 35-year-old claimed that Maxwell has had a constructive impact on the Kings XI dressing room. “His positive energy is infectious, and he loves to play golf and goof around. It’s a great atmosphere in the dressing room with Maxwell being there,” said Sehwag.

Sehwag, who has not been in the greatest of forms in the last couple of years, has shown signs of improvement in the past 2 months. In addition to an attractive 30-run cameo against Sunrisers Hyderabad, he top scored against Kolkata Knight Riders in a low-scoring encounter.

Speaking about his own form, Sehwag said: “It is certainly a great feeling to be hitting some good form. I now intend to play well and make it count in the upcoming matches.”

David Miller, Punjab’s South African import for the IPL, believes that Sehwag’s greatest strength lies in having a clean mind before he sets out to play an innings.

“I do not keep any targets and just go with a blank mind. The whole idea is to be able to contribute for your team. While chasing, keeping up with the required run-rate is very important. Also, when we bat first, it is extremely crucial to get a good start so that the team can build on it,” Sehwag responded.
