Going back to IPL is huge privilege: Eoin Morgan

Eoin Morgan at a Press Conference in Australia.

The Current England skipper has made his choice to play for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL than leading his side in the one-day international against Ireland in Dublin on May 8 this year. The England Cricket Board has agreed to their captain’s decision and cleared all the England players, who are a part of the IPL this year, for the same.

"Yeah, that means I won't go to Ireland. The chairman of selectors and the director of cricket have allowed the guys who have got picked up in the IPL, or went into the auction, to miss that Ireland game in order to expose themselves to opportunities in the IPL in order to learn more about their game." said Morgan when asked if the ECB has agreed with his decision.

On being asked if his decision was odd, Morgan added, “No I don't think it is. Probably if you're being a little short-sighted it might do, but I think in the longer run it will serve me well."

Previous IPL Stint

Eoin Morgan made his debut in the Indian Premier League for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the year 2010. He had a rather unsuccessful stint with the franchise and was bought by the Kolkata Knight Riders in the year 2011, whom he represented for two seasons.

The English International has scored 483 runs at an average of 21 in the 32 matches he played in 3 editions of the T20 Extravaganza. However, the 28-year old was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL-8 auction for a lucrative 1.5 Crores and he is set to play alongside his teammates Ravi Bopara and the discarded Kevin Pietersen who were also snatched in the auctions by the same franchise.

On asking about his re-addition to the IPL, Morgan said, "It does give you great confidence, you learn a lot along the way and it gives you great energy. Going back to that (the IPL) is a huge privilege."

The 8th Edition of the Indian Premier League is scheduled from April 8- May 24 this year in India, with defending Champions Kolkata Knight Riders set to face Mumbai Indians in the opener at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
