Graeme Smith will not play in rest of the ODIs against Pakistan

South Africa’s captain Graeme Smith has been ruled out of the remainder of the ODI series against Pakistan after he was diagnosed with post-concussion syndrome, Cricket South Africa announced via their twitter handle today, before the start of the 3rd ODI.

20-year-old Quinton de Kock has been selected as Smith’s replacement, and will keep the wickets in the remaining ODIs. AB de Villiers will be leading the side in the absence of Smith.

Smith was hit on the head by a Mohammad Irfan delivery during the 2nd Test between South Africa and Pakistan in Dubai, which the Proteas won, squaring the series 1-1. Smith was hit when he was on 138, and he went on to make a match-winning 234.

Smith played the first two matches in the ongoing 5-match ODI series against Pakistan, scoring 20 and 14.
