Grant Elliott to miss sister's wedding due to World Cup final
After guiding his side to their first ever World Cup final, Grant Elliott has a great opportunity to provide his sister with the ideal wedding gift if he and his side go on to register a famous World Cup win at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
“She's got a wedding on Friday. Unfortunately, I will miss her wedding. I'm sorry. She's pretty happy for me but I'm going to have to get her a special gift I think," the right-handed batsman said after scoring an unbeaten 84 on Tuesday.
The 36-year-old, who was a surprise inclusion in New Zealand’s World Cup squad, despite having not played a single ODI in 2014, smashed Dale Steyn for a six on the penultimate ball of the innings to take the Blackcaps to a historic win in front of a vociferous crowd at Eden Park in Auckland.
Following that blow, Elliott lifted his hands in jubilation while the fast bowler fell to the ground, completely distort at what had just happened.
The Kiwis will now face the winner of the second semi-final between India and Australia, which will be played at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Thursday, in the final on Sunday.
