Adjudged man-of-the-match for his breathtaking 178 runs against Afghanistan in a World Cup Pool A contest at the WACA here on Wednesday, Australia opener David Warner said it was great to see the majority of his teammates getting runs.

Sent into bat, Australia posted a monumental total of 417 for six from their 50 overs courtesy knocks from Warner, Glen Maxwell (88) and Steven Smith (95). In reply, Afghanistan managed to score only 142, giving Australia their highest-ever win while batting first in One-Day Internationals (ODIs) – 275 runs.

“It's (win) great, most importantly we won, so that's fantastic. Compared to how I was hitting it in the nets, good to get out and play on a fantastic wicket and great to see the boys getting amongst the runs,” said Warner at the post-match presentation ceremony.

“Next game against Sri Lanka is massive”

The prolific left-hand bat also lauded the efforts of the opposition bowlers saying they were quick and impressive.

“Their second spells were very good I thought. They executed the yorkers quite well. The boys were actually surprised at how quick those fellows bowl. It was good and impressive. They came back well at the end.”

Warner added the four-time World Cup winners are now upbeat about facing Sri Lanka in their next encounter on March 8 at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

“Our next game is massive (against Sri Lanka). We got to be upbeat and come out and try and get a good start with bat or ball. We definitely got to win,” concluded Warner.
