Hardik Pandya's father defends his son for his controversial remarks on Koffee with Karan

India's hard-hitting all-rounder Hardik Pandya has been in the news for all the wrong reasons after the comments he made on Karan Johar's talk show Koffee with Karan. Hardik had later apologized for his actions but the 25-year-old is still facing the heat for his inappropriate comments. However, his father has stated that the comments were made in a ‘light-hearted manner’ and that his son is 'an innocent boy'.
The Background
Indian cricketers Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul had appeared on Karan Johar's famous chat show, Koffee with Karan which aired on January 5, 2019. Both the cricketers, especially Hardik Pandya, revealed how close they have been with multiple women. This statement drew a massive backlash from the fans as they slammed Pandya on social media for his remarks. The Mumbai Indians player then apologized saying he was 'carried away' by the nature of the show and that he did not want to disrespect or hurt anyone.
The Heart of the Matter
Hardik's father, Himanshu Pandya voiced his opinion on his son's actions and stated on the Mid-Day that,
"I don’t think people should read too much into his comments. It was an entertainment show and his comments were made in a light-hearted manner. he was only looking to entertain the audience. So, it [his comments] should not be viewed very seriously or negatively. He is an innocent boy with a very fun- loving nature,"

What's Next?
With the COA and the BCCI possibly mulling a strong penalty for Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul, it does not seem like Himanshu Pandya's comments will do any good for his son. Pandya and Rahul are both in the ODI squad for the series against Australia and the first match is scheduled to take place on January 12.
