Hardik Pandya's father not thinking too much about his son's Test debut
When the Indian team for the first two Tests were announced last week, one of the big talking points was the inclusion of Hardik Pandya in the team, which further raised a debate over the all-rounder would be handed Test debut soon enough.
His selection into the Indian Test team was surely a moment to rejoice for his parents, who have seen their son go from being just a domestic cricketer to donning the coloured clothing for India in 2016.
However, ahead of what could be a decisive few days in the young man’s career, one man didn’t seem flustered over all the happenings. Himanshu Pandya, Father of Hardik, is not perturbed over whether his son will feature in the Test series and instead is happy about his son’s selection into the Test team.
"We are content that he could get a chance in the India team. It is up to the team management who should play in the final eleven. We are not thinking too much on this. If Hardik gets a chance this time, it is OK. If not, will wait for his next chance to play for India,” he said, on the eve of the Rajkot Test between India and England.
Pandya was not the only youngster to have received a maiden call-up into the Test team. Karnataka batsman Karun Nair, too found a spot in the side for the first two Tests and his parents also didn't seem too worried about the selection of their son into the playing XI and his father, in fact, added thinking about getting picked could actually put pressure on the players.
"If the final eleven is known to both (Pandya and Karun), whoever is chosen will be able to concentrate more and set the strategy without having tension and thoughts on whether he would get a chance or not...,
“However, I can not suggest whether to go as per the practice adopted by England and Australia. It is up to the BCCI and the team management to decide," Nair’s father Kaladharan said.
The wait for that elusive Test cap extended for the duo on Wednesday morning when Virat Kohli’s men decided to go in with three spinners and two quicks.
