Harsha Bhogle remarks on MS Dhoni's 'rare off day', gets jokingly warned he will be banned from Twitter

Harsha Bhogle

It has been surprising how Harsha Bhogle has been unceremoniously dumped from the IPL commentary team. One of the speculations has been that he has had to pay for his criticism of the Indian cricket team.

In an unofficial capacity, Bhogle was still commenting his insight on the IPL match between Rising Pune Supergiants and Gujarat Lions on Thursday. Something happened during the match which is not very frequently seen – Dhoni missed a stumping.

Something Bhogle said elicited a joke from former England cricketer and BBC presenter Jonathan Agnew – Bhogle commented that Dhoni was having a below-par day on the field, and he was warned that there would have to be a price paid for this criticism as well.

Agnew played his first-class cricket in the 1980s, also earning three England caps, as a fast bowler. He has later scripted a reputation for being one of the most respected cricket broadcasters internationally.

This was a dark joke made on the plight of his fellow commentator Harsha Bhogle, somebody similarly revered as a commentator. Dhoni had let known his displeasure on Twitter during the World T20 of Indian commentators who criticise the Men in Blue, and it is a speculation that this might have had a big hand to play in Bhogle’s ouster.
