Hashim Amla denies rumours that he asked TV host to dress to his liking

South Africa international Hashim Amla has tweeted to rumours that he had asked an Indian TV journalist to dress up before he gave an interview to her on last year’s tour of India. The rumours, mainly reported by editorials with Islamic leanings, had said that the female journalist’s short dress had bothered Amla’s Islamic ideologies.

However, Amla himself has quashed all such rumours, saying that the whole event is a fabrication. He also claimed that he would never force his beliefs on anyone.

Allegedly, Amla was displeased at the short dress the woman was wearing and her low-neck top, after which he apologised but firmly expressed his condition to the organisers. The woman was then asked to change her dress by the organisers, who complied.

What had lent some credibility to the rumours was that Amla has been a fervent follower of Islam, even once agreeing to pay a fine to not sport the logo of beer company on his South Africa jersey.
