Hope Mayank Agarwal plays for India soon: Yuvraj Singh
Delhi Daredevils’ (DD) flamboyant opener Mayank Agarwal has received a ringing endorsement from Yuvraj Singh following his match-winning knock of 68 from 47 balls, including 7 fours and 2 sixes, against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) yesterday. Chasing a target of 166, Agarwal combined brilliantly with Yuvraj to form a 106-run partnership that gave DD their first win of the 2015 IPL season.
Speaking to IPL’s official website after the match, Yuvraj said: "I have been talking to him from the start of the IPL and he played really well in the last game. He played really well in this game too; he is maturing and I hope he plays for India soon."
Agarwal, who played for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) previously, has shown brief signs of promise in the past, and he can now hopefully kick on and start playing innings of the kind he did yesterday on a more consistent basis. The 24-year-old from Karnataka, who was awarded the man of the match for his efforts, said that having someone of the experience of Yuvraj at the other end was of a huge help.
"After the end of the over, Yuvraj and I would discuss plans. We discussed which bowler we were going to target and we were discussing whether we were on track.
"When you have got wickets in hand, it gives us the leverage to chase the target. We arrived at a stage where we knew we had a good base and we could go after the target. Our plan at the start was clear. We were not going to go after Mitchell Johnson immediately but until and unless we had a measure of him, we would target him," he added.
