Amongst Indian cricketers, Sachin Tendulkar once ruled the commercial front of the entire ‘showmanship’ part of the game. The little master was the richest sporting icon of the country for almost the whole of the 90s up until the mid-2000s.
But the times have changed and it is now the Indian ODI and T20 captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni who has taken his spot. The 34-year-old wicketkeeper batsman not only leads his teammates on the field in limited overs but also shows his subordinates how it's done when it comes to brand endorsements.
However, when it comes to displaying stickers on the willows, Virat Kohli has a handsome lead over MS Dhoni.
According to a report in the Times of India, Spartan pays the World Cup winning Indian skipper a sum of Rs. 6 crore, while the Royal Challengers Bengaluru captain receives Rs. 8 crore from MRF for displaying their sticker on his bat. Moreover, the Delhi batsman gets an additional Rs. 2 crore for endorsing shoes and apparel on the field.
The amounts mentioned are for the duration of the batsmen’s endorsement periods, which vary according to the contracts signed between the player and the brand.
Be that as it may, the scales get balanced when one takes into account the amount that the duo receives through brand endorsements.
While MS Dhoni pockets Rs. 8 crore from the brands that he endorses, Virat Kohli receives Rs. 5 crore for the same.
Other Indian cricketers are also compensated quite substantially for displaying stickers on their bats. Here is a list to give you a clear idea:
Cricketers | Company Stickers | Remuneration (Rs.) |
Virat Kohli | MRF | 8 crore |
MS Dhoni | Spartan | 6 crore |
Yuvraj Singh | Puma | 4 crore |
Rohit Sharma | CEAT | 3 crore |
Shikhar Dhawan | MRF | 3 crore |
Suresh Raina | CEAT | 2.5-3 crore |
As far as the non-Indian cricketers are concerned, only AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle pocket amounts which are comparable with their Indian counterparts. While the South African superstar receives Rs. 3.5 crore for his bat-sticker, the West Indies opener gets Rs. 3 crore for the same.
