Virat Kohli's gratifying gesture at the 'Pink' Test
Background
The Sydney Test is also known as the Pink Test. This tradition has been going on since the year 2009 when Australia played South Africa. After Glenn McGrath's wife Jane died due to breast cancer in the year 2008, the Sydney Test came to be known as the Pink Test.
The third day of the final Test between India and Australia saw the crowd sporting the color pink in honor of the late Jane McGrath. Both teams were seen presenting their pink caps to the Aussie legend Glen McGrath before the start of play on Day 3.
How Kohli won everyone's hearts
Virat Kohli won everyone's hearts when he came out to bat with the color pink in his gloves, pads and the grip of his bat. In addition to this, the MRF logo on his bat was also in pink. McGrath later on in a press conference stated how the Indian captain came to him one night and told him he had something special in mind for the Sydney Test.
He went on to tell McGrath that he had his 'pinks' ready for the Sydney test. In appreciation of the skipper's act, the McGrath Foundation tweeted:
About the McGrath Foundation
The McGrath Foundation was founded by Glen McGrath and his late wife Jane McGrath in the year 2005 following Jane's initial diagnosis and recovery from breast cancer. The McGrath Foundation raises money to place the nurses of the Foundation all across the communities in Australia so as to provide the needy support free of charge and also increase the awareness of breast cancer.
The Foundation has received the support of the Australian Government from time to time since 2008. Recently the Federal Government announced that they would be contributing $27 million to pay for 41 more nurses of the foundation for the next 10 years.
