How the KPL helped Suchith become an IPL star
The Karnataka Premier League 2018 is currently in its final leg, taking place in Mysuru. And the home side, the Mysuru Warriors, have been putting on quite a show with their performances on the field.
They have won two out of the three matches and are well on their way to qualify for the playoffs.
Jagadeesha Suchith, who is the captain of the side, is one of the most experienced players in the side, having played in the IPL as well.
In an exclusive interview with Sportskeeda, Suchith speaks about how the KPL helped him get noticed by the Mumbai Indians in 2014.
"We played 3 games in Mysore in 2014 and we had two games in Bangalore as well at the time when the Champions League was going on. At that time, the Mumbai Indians were practising on the ground along with us. After the net sessions, Anil (Kumble) sir came up to me and he asked to come and bowl in the nets to the Mumbai Indians' batsman. I did pretty well there and then I was picked to play for them," he said.
Suchith picked up 10 wickets in the tournament in 2015 and was and an extremely important part of the squad which went on to lift the title.
"Overall in the tournament, I did really well and it gave me lots of confidence to play under pressure as I was bowling to the best batsman in Karnataka and other world-class batsmen as well. I ended up being one of the highest wicket-takers," he continued.
Suchith also went on to speak about his experience of sharing the dressing room with big stars such as Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, and Rohit Sharma.
I was very nervous before the Mumbai Indians camp started. I couldn't sleep for 4-5 days.
"I was excited to meet Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, Rohit Sharma, Jonty Rhodes, and Shane bond. As a newcomer and youngster, I was really excited. I was with them for three years and every year was a new learning and I learnt a lot in all three formats of the game. I was able to see myself transform as a cricketer," he concluded.
