Humour: Mumbai Indians to play an extra game

The BCCI has done it again. In a meeting that involved CLT20 organizers, members from the South African Cricket Board and Cricket Australia, the BCCI decided to allow Mumbai to play an extra game, to compensate for their league game that was abandoned on Monday due to rain.

Though three other teams – Highveld Lions, Perth Scrorchers and Otago Volts – faced a similar outcome thanks to rain, only Mumbai Indians were granted an additional match that might as well open the door to the semis. The BCCI cited the fact that this being Sachin Tendulkar‘s last CLT20 was the factor that led to this decision. “Every game Tendulkar plays is a blessing to mankind. This is the least we could do,” said a spokesperson from the BCCI.

This is not the first occasion where the organizing committee has flexed its rules for Mumbai Indians. In the previous edition, they were allowed to play 5 overseas players while all the other IPL teams stuck to the upper limit of 4, after Sachin Tendulkar and Rohit Sharma were ruled out due to injuries.

To further simplify their road to the semis, the BCCI also decided to handpick the team that faces Mumbai Indians in the bonus match. Much to everybody’s surprise, the name was Kochi Tuskers, a franchise that was terminated a year after their inception to the big money league. With Sreesanth being handed a life-ban and star players like Ravindra Jadeja and Brad Hodge playing for other teams, Kochi Tuskers are assumed to be an easy hurdle for the Rohit Sharma led side.

“This indicates that the BCCI has a big heart. We forgive and forget. This is an indirect message to the South African Cricket Board,” said N Srinivasan. “If Mumbai Indians face another wash-out, we might also give Pune Warriors a choice to improve their relationship with us,” he added.

Lalit Modi, who was frustrated after getting a life-ban, said this is another conspiracy by N Srinivasan to divert people’s attention. “Srini mama wants to contest the next elections. So, he’s just showing off that he isn’t just partial towards CSK,” Modi tweeted.

When MS Dhoni was asked to comment about the ongoing controversy, he said, “I’m more worried about my hair-style that’s gone horribly wrong. For once my instincts haven’t worked.”

The BCCI also announced that they would let Sachin decide the venue of the additional game that his team would be playing.

Reacting to this, Sachin Tendulkar said, “At this rate, the BCCI will also request Yamaraj to give me ten extra years of life and let me decide where I would like to live during those extra years. I was also looking to end the tournament early and spend time with my kids, but that’s down the drain now. My kids will be so annoyed with this.”
