I will play for India again, says Robin Uthappa
Karnataka Ranji player Robin Uthappa believes he made some wrong judgments during the one-day international series in Zimbabwe and now is working hard to make a comeback to Indian team. The right-hand batsman could only make 44 runs in the three-match series.
But eventually it was T20 series where he got back and was the second highest scorer in the two-match series which ended in a stalemate.
“T20 went pretty well, but unfortunately I couldn’t capitalize in ODIs. Batting at that position (Number Five) was something new to me,” he said.
“Probably I was too keen to do well, and made some wrong judgments at that point of time. But I am working hard and I will keep doing my best and hopefully I will play for India again.”
Uthappa was at the jersey launch of his Karnataka Premier League (KPL) team - Bijapur Bulls - in Bengaluru. Speaking on the coming KPL season, Uthappa said he was looking forward to the tournament and would like to play to his potential.
“I am looking forward to KPL and preparations are going as usual. It is good to have lot of T20 games since the World Cup is coming up. So you can never play few good games. It is always good to play these games.
“I am happy to be a part of this side (Bijapur Bulls) and I am looking forward to the KPL tournament. We have got a good side and I think we’ll play to our potential.”
During the KPL player auction, Uthappa was sold to Bijapur Bulls for 3.4 lakh and many pundits were surprised by the low bid of the rich international experienced player. When asked about the difference of money he gets in IPL and KPL, Uthappa said:
“I am of the impression that a lot of people did not know I am playing or not. I think it came as a surprise and kind of unsettled the plan. So, the money does not matter for me. I think just the experience of playing with these boys and playing T20 cricket is something I am looking forward to.”
The wicket-keeper batsman has played 46 matches for India in which he had scored 934 runs at an average of 25.94.
