ICC Champions Trophy 2013: England beat Australia by 48 runs
England won the toss and chose to bat first against Australia at Edgbaston in the third game of the 2013 ICC Champions trophy. England scored 269 runs for 6 in their 50 overs. Ian Bell was the top scorer for England, scoring 91 runs off 115 balls and was ably supported by Jonathan Trott(43 off 56) Ravi Bopara then pushed up the total in the final overs as he smashed 46 off 37 balls. Clint Mckay was the pick of the bowlers for the Aussies, with figures of 2/38 off his full quota of overs .
In reply, Australia were unable to chase down the target, managing only 221/9 in their 50 overs, losing the match by 48 runs. The stand-in Australian captain George Bailey top-scored for his team, scoring 55 runs off 69 balls. James Anderson was the best bowler for England as he choked up the Aussie batting, taking 3/30 in his ten overs. The English bowling didn’t allow the Aussies to break free at all as they took wickets at regular intervals while ensuring that the runs were hard to get.
