ICC Champions Trophy 2013: New Zealand slip past Lanka

Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bat first against New Zealand at Cardiff in the fourth match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2013. Sri Lanka  were knocked out for 138 runs in 37.5 overs. Kumar Sangakkara was the highest scorer for Sri Lanka, scoring 68 runs off 87 balls. Mitchell McClenaghan was the pick of the bowlers for the kiwis, with figures of 4/43 in 8.5 overs.

In reply, New Zealand struggled to chase down the target but they finally overtook the Lankan total scoring 139/9, thus winning the match by 1 wicket.  Nathan McCullum top-scored for Black Caps, scoring 32 runs off 42 balls. Lasith Malinga was the best bowler for Sri Lanka, tormenting the kiwis with his perfect yorkers on the way to a brilliant 4/34 off his ten overs.

The Kiwis struggled throughout their innings and Malinga gleefully peppered them with toe-crushing yorkers in a bid to finally end their batting, however, Tim Southee managed to hold his nerve, scoring a brave 13 off 21 to help his team clinch the match
