Australian all-rounder Shane Watson and Pakistani pacer Wahab Riaz have been charged by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for their unsportsmanlike behaviour in the quarter-final clash between the two teams at the Adelaide Oval.

The ICC charged the duo for violating the ICC Code of Conduct. The degree of punishment hasn’t yet been revealed, but is expected to be released when the ICC makes a formal announcement on Saturday.

In the match where Australia emerged victorious by 6 wickets, Riaz and Watson were having a go at each other throughout the Australian inning. The Aussie was dropped off Riaz’s bowling when he was on 4. Watson went on to score an unbeaten 64 off 66 balls.

Riaz had a fantastic match and was lauded by the cricketing world for his excellent spell. He got the wickets of David Warner and Michael Clarke which brought Pakistan back in the match. The 29-year-old finished with a spell of 9-0-54-2 and could have had more wickets if Watson and Glenn Maxwell weren’t dropped off his bowling.

Pakistan were knocked out of the World Cup due to this loss and Australia qualified for the semi-final setting up a date with India at the Sydney Cricket Ground on 26th March.
