ICC ODI Rankings for Batsmen: Shikhar Dhawan moves down to No.7; AB de Villiers retains top spot
In the Reliance ICC Player Rankings for ODI batsmen, India opener Shikhar Dhawan has dropped a place to seventh despite being the leading run-getter in the Bangladesh series with 158 runs. Dhawan, however, holds a sizable 43-point advantage over his captain MS Dhoni who is in eighth place after scoring 121 runs in the series, including a highest score of 69.
Suresh Raina has also improved his ranking by two places to move up to 18th. Bangladesh batsman Soumya Sarkar has vaulted 15 places to a career high 51st after scores of 54, 34 and 40 and other notable movers include Shakib Al Hasan (up two places to 31st) and Nasir Hossain (up three places to 38th).
Meanwhile, following England’s thrilling 3-2 series victory over New Zealand which concluded earlier this week, a number of players on either side have made significant gains.
In the batting ranks, Williamson’s tally of 396 runs in the five matches (featuring scores of 93, 118, 90, 50 and 57) have seen the 24-year-old Tauranga man move up one place to sixth in the batting rankings and now lies just seven points behind Sri Lanka’s Tillakaratne Dilshan. Ross Taylor has moved up two places into ninth after scoring 375 runs (119 not out, 110, 42, 47 and 17).
Joe Root’s 274 runs, including two centuries and a fifty, has seen the in-form Yorkshire man move up five places to 11th, while his team-mate Jos Buttler has also moved up nine places to 17th after scoring 183 runs in four matches.
However the stand-out performer with the bat for the hosts was inspirational captain Eoin Morgan, whose tally of 322 runs in the series (including three half-centuries and a top score of 113 in the fourth ODI) has helped vault him 15 places to 30th.
