ICC T20 World Cup 2016: Ben Stokes reacts on Twitter after getting hit for four consecutive sixes

Ben Stokes was at the receiving end last night

On Sunday night, West Indies created history by becoming the first team ever to win the ICC World T20 title twice, defeating England by four wickets at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

It was a thrilling game of cricket as the Caribbean men needed 19 runs from the last over and Carlos Brathwaite did that for them with 2 balls to spare.

While Brathwaite hit four consecutive deliveries for sixes, another young man this time from England was at the receiving end, playing his first final in an ICC tournament.

Ben Stokes has been a key member of the Three Lions side in the past year or so and was also very effective throughout the tournament. But come the final over of the final match and he wasn’t able to deliver the good work which was required.

He picked up four wickets in the tournament with an economy rate of 9.58 but went for 24 runs in the final over.

The New Zealand-born English cricketer was earlier very excited for the much-awaited final and also expressed his feelings on the social networking site Twitter.

However, after the disappointing last over it was very clear that the 24-year-old was shell-shocked in the field. After getting hit for four consecutive sixes he was completely devastated and was consoled by his captain Eoin Morgan on the field.

In the post-match presentation ceremony, the England captain was asked how Stokes is coping with the disappointment. Morgan replied, “It’s quite simple from my point of view. He is going to be devastated. It’ll take its toll in the next couple of days. but we share the pain, we share the success. You could say what you like to him at the moment but he’s probably not hearing it.”

After the loss, Stokes also opened about his state of mind on Twitter. He thanked all the supporters for the support despite bowling the disappointing last over.

After this tweet, Stokes tweeted again to congratulate the West Indian team for their great win.
