ICC T20 World Cup 2016: Mashrafe Mortaza reveals Bangladesh team skipped dinner after loss to India

The Bangladesh skipper has divulged that none of his teammates had dinner that night

Bangladesh skipper Mashrafe Mortaza has revealed that he and his teammates skipped dinner after their heart-wrenching 1-run defeat against India in a Super 10 game in the ICC T20 World Cup 2016.

Mashrafe, who is currently on a holiday in Kashmir, interacted with the local youngsters there. Mashrafe has been an inspirational skipper for Bangladesh and it was under his leadership that the Tigers reached the quarter-final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, a first for the Asian country.

Mashrafe met the local people when he stopped by at a village on Srinagar-Sonamarg highway on Sunday. On his way back to Srinagar from Sonamarg, he saw a few youngsters playing cricket at Kullan. Mortaza reportedly stopped his vehicle and came down to have a chat with the youngsters there.

None of us had dinner that evening

In the Super 10 encounter against India, Bangladesh were in a commanding position, however, they squandered their position by failing to score just 2 runs off the last 3 balls. Experienced keeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah Riyad got out in consecutive deliveries and they were left with 2 runs to score of the last ball.

Shuvagata Hom faced the last ball from Pandya but failed to connect and Mustafizur Rahman, who was on the other end, failed to complete the run as India won the nail-biting contest.

"We were very upset with that defeat. None of us had dinner that evening. Losing is a part of the game and we did not want to lose that match," Mortaza was quoted as saying by a local website when a local boy asked about Bangladesh not being able to score two runs off the last three balls during their Super 10 encounter against India.

The experienced pacer gave some tips to the players and he even showed them the nuances of bowling by running in to bowl himself. He displayed some of his skills to the youngsters and they listened to the talented fast bowler with utmost attention.

Mashrafe Mortaza is surely an inspiration for one and all to follow. His career has been plagued by injuries and he even underwent serious surgeries. But the gutsy cricketer defied all the odds to come back with a bang and even took the mantle of leadership to guide Bangladesh cricket forward.

He is currently doing a great job with the current crop of players and Bangladesh cricket seems to be going in the right direction under his stewardship.
