ICC T20I Bowler Rankings: Ravichandran Ashwin moves into the top five, Jasprit Bumrah drops to No.3
It was a mixed series for the Indian bowlers after the release of the latest ICC Player Rankings for T20I bowlers at the conclusion of the two-match T20I series between India and West Indies. While Ravichandran Ashwin climbed into the top five once again, Jasprit Bumrah moved down a spot to No.3.
Samuel Badree continues to dominate the T20I bowlers rankings as he maintained his top spot with what is now a slender three-point lead over second place.
Despite picking up four wickets in the two T20Is and breaking Dirk Nannes’ world record for most T20I wickets in a calendar year, the 22-year-old fast bowler moved from his career-best T20I ranking of No.2 to No.3. His drop meant South Africa’s Imran Tahir moved into second spot.
The big gain from the series belonged to the off-spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin who returned to the top five as he moved from seventh to fourth. Ashwin was the most economical bowler in the first T20I and followed that up with 2/11 in the second match, which helped make the climb.
The other major movers were the two fast bowlers for India, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammad Shami who are at 67th and 82nd place respectively while Amit Mishra, who was playing his first T20I since the 2014 World T20, re-entered the rankings at No.104 thanks to his 3/24.
The rest of the top 10 remained at their respective positions apart from Sunil Narine who fell three places and is now in seventh place. The other West Indies players to make a mark were Dwayne Bravo, who moved up five places to take the 33rd rank while Kieron Pollard climbed seven places to 96th and Brathwaite is now at No.119, up from No.127.
With India not scheduled to play another T20I for the rest of the year, it looks as both Bumrah and Ashwin’s place at No.3 and No.4 is under threat. With Australia taking on Sri Lanka in a two-match T20I series starting on September 6, James Faulkner will be looking to move up the rankings while Shahid Afridi also has a chance to climb up as Pakistan play a solitary T20I against England on September 7.
