ICC T20I Rankings: Glenn Maxwell climbs to career-best ranking
Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has catapulted to his career-best T20I batsman ranking of No.3 and is the No.1 ranked T20I all-rounder after a Man of the Series winning performance against Sri Lanka. His move to No.1 in the all-rounder ranking means Shakib-Al-Hasan and Shahid Afridi drop to No.2 and No.3.
Virat Kohli maintains his top spot while Aaron Finch, despite not playing both T20Is against Sri Lanka remains in second. However the biggest climb belonged to Maxwell, who jumped up 16 places to his career-best ranking of third.
After registering his maiden T20 hundred, which also happened to be his career-best T20I score and second-best in the history of T20Is in the first T20I and following that up with 66 in the second T20I and finishing with 211 runs from two matches, Maxwell jumped from 19th to 3rd.
In terms of points, Kohli is way in front with 820 points while Finch is only eight points ahead of Maxwell, who currently has 763 points. As far as the rest of the top ten are concerned, it is relatively the same with most players dropping a place with Maxwell surging ahead.
While Kane Williamson remains in sixth spot, Joe Root drops two places to seventh while the rest of the top ten all drop one place. After scoring a fifty in the first T20I, Sri Lankan captain Dinesh Chandimal moved up four places to 60th spot while Tillakaratne Dilshan (earlier a No.1 ranked T20I batsman) ends his international career at No.19.
After scoring a fifty in the one-off T20I against England, Pakistan’s openers Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif surged up the rankings. While Sharjeel moved up 28 places to No.37, Latif made an even bigger clim as he rose 61 places to take the 120th position.
As far as the all-rounders rankings are concerned, thanks to his impressive performances in the two-match T20I series, Maxwell leapfrogged Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi and Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan to become the top-ranked T20I all-rounder.
