ICC Test Rankings for Batsmen: Steven Smith finishes Ashes ranked number 1
Australia's Steven Smith is back on top in the latest ICC Player Rankings for Test Batsmen which was released after the second Test match between Sri Lanka vs India. Indian Test team captain Virat Kohli moved out of the top 10 table as Chris Rogers made his way up.
Smith was on the top with 913 points when the Ashes started but had lost his position after the Trent Bridge Test where Australia faced heavy defeat from England team. However, he made up for it by scoring 143 in the final Test at Kennington Oval in London.
AB de Villiers stays at no. 2 with 890 points, followed by Joe Root with 889 points. Kumar Sangakkara who played his farewell Test against India at the P Sara Oval Stadium in Colombo scored 32 and 28 in Sri Lanka's an innings and 278 runs defeat. He signs off being no. 7, his highest-ever points tally was 938, achieved on 1 December 2007, and that total is the highest ever achieved by a Sri Lanka batsman to date and the joint sixth highest of all-time.
India's Ajinkya Rahane moved up two places to a career-high 20th rank, Sri Lanka's Dimuth Karunaratne moved to 34th and Moeen Ali to a career-high 48th rank. Lokesh Rahul, who scored his second Test century in against the Lankans, jumped 30 places to reach 87th rank.
