ICC trolls Ajit Agarkar, asks if he is the next Michael Phelps

Ajit Agarkar has become the unwitting victim of some Olympic-themed humour

It is not often that the ICC’s Twitter account makes light of cricketers. But the ongoing Rio Olympics are always on everybody’s mind, and Ajit Agarkar found himself at the end of some wicked humour by the social media account handlers of cricket's governing body.

The ICC uncovered a photo that shows the former India cricketer swimming at his team hotel in Port-of-Spain on 26 March, 2007. The India team had just been eliminated from the 2007 World Cup, and were spending the rest of the tournament’s duration at the hotel.

With the photo, there was a caption which asked if Agarkar was the next Michael Phelps.

Phelps, the highest medal winner in Olympics history and generally considered as the greatest athlete of all time, is competing at the Rio Olympics for a last time. He has won one medal already, in the team relay event. He has embarked on his first individual event and stands a chance to win his first individual medal on Monday night, in the 200m butterfly event.

Ajit Agarkar had represented India in more than 200 international matches since his (ODI) debut against Australia in April 1998 and picked up over 300 wickets in Tests and ODIs combined.

While not yet ready to represent India at the Olympics at a sport, Agarkar made headlines recently after having won the India Finals of BMR World Corporate Golf Challenge in Bengaluru.
