So its four from four, and India are the only team to have a confirmed quarter-final slot after New Zealand in Group A. MS Dhoni’s calm and composed unbeated 45* helped India clinch the win against the Caribbean side after Shami led the Indian bowling with 3 wickets. As the Indian juggernaut continues and the West Indians are busy licking their wounds, here’s a look at the player ratings for the match.

India

Rohit Sharma – 2/10 

Sharma’s indifferent World Cup campaign continues. After a decent outing against UAE, people expected him to fare well versus his favourite opposition. But that was not to be. He spent thirty minutes and scored just seven, wasting the efforts he took to settle down.

Shikhar Dhawan – 2/10

Lasted just four overs, and scored just nine runs. Apart from a few saves in the field, there’s nothing that he did to ensure an Indian win. He might want to sit down and watch highlights of India’s game against South Africa.

Virat Kohli – 7/10

In the eye of the storm lately, Kohli fought hard for his 33. On a pitch that batsmen failed to understand properly, he scored at a significantly high strike rate and spent close to an hour in the middle. One bad pull shot was what cost his wicket. Don’t forget his contribution while fielding though.

Ajinkya Rahane – 5/10

Appeared a bit confused regarding his role in the batting line-up. His intent oscillated from aggression to watchful caution, and he ended up indulging properly in neither. Like Sharma, Rahane could have done more after spending so much time in the middle. 

Suresh Raina – 6/10

Was edgy against the short-ball, as expected. But scored some valuable runs for his team. Had he stayed longer, the palpitations that the Indians faced later on could be avoided. As usual, was a live-wire on the field. 

MS Dhoni – 9/10

Perhaps the greatest ODI batsman that India has ever produced, MS Dhoni reaffirmed his worth yet again. When everyone around him fell trying to attempt exuberant shots, he stayed calm, picking up the singles and the twos. Rotating the strike with ease and comforting the dressing room like never before. Some of Dhoni’s decisions while captaining were masterstrokes, like continuing to attack a dangerous looking Chris Gayle. 

Ravindra Jadeja – 7/10

Picked up two important wickets towards the end of the West Indies batting. However, Jadeja is unable to justify his place as a batting all-rounder, as he continues to provide uninspiring performances with the bat. The rash shot to get out was an example of how under utilized he is as a batsman. 

Ravichandran Ashwin – 7/10

Picked up the wicket of Carter, just when he had started looking good. With the bat, ensured that India didn’t lose any more wicket after Jadeja’s and provided MS Dhoni with an opportunity to finish the chase without worry. 

Mohit Sharma – 7/10

Recovered brilliantly after failing to take a catch and orchestrated an important run out. With the ball in hand, he discharged his duties to perfection, giving away absolutely nothing and picking up a wicket. Mohit has been the silver lining in Ishant Sharma’s injury. 

Mohammed Shami – 9/10

The Man of the Match has silenced many of his detractors, who continued to doubt his talent despite him being the highest wicket taker of 2014. Shami broke the backbone of the West Indian batting by getting rid of Dwayne Smith and Chris Gayle early on. He bowled very well in his second spell as well. 

Umesh Yadav – 8/10

Almost pulled off a stunner in the field and was as good as Shami was with the new ball. Umesh’s pace has ensured that the Indian pace battery is looking as threatening as ever.
