ICC Cricket World Cup 2019: Former Indian star picks MS Dhoni as his captain for the World Cup
What's the story?
Former Indian cricketer Ajay Jadeja recently selected his ideal Indian squad for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup, while speaking in the studios of Cricbuzz.
Quite surprisingly, he selected Mahendra Singh Dhoni to lead the Indian team at the World Cup instead of regular Indian captain Virat Kohli. He also did not include rising star Vijay Shankar in his squad for the mega-event.
The background
A lot of cricket experts have made their predictions for the 2019 World Cup which is just 3 months away. Two days ago, South African legend AB de Villiers picked his favorites for the World Cup while yesterday Sunil Gavaskar predicted the two finalists. Now, it was former Indian batsman Jadeja's turn to make some predictions for the World Cup.
The heart of the matter
Jadeja's squad had some surprises. Not only did he pick MS Dhoni as the team's captain, but he also included Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja in his squad. His squad has 4 spinners in Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin.
Given that England will host the World Cup, it is unlikely that India will have 4 spinners in their squad.
Ajay Jadeja's Indian squad for the World Cup - Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan/KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni (C & WK), Rishabh Pant, Dinesh Karthik, Ambati Rayudu, Hardik Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin
What's next?
Taking into account the success of the current Indian side that is playing the ODI series against Australia, the possibilities of Ashwin and Jadeja making a comeback are minimal. Also, Virat Kohli will undoubtedly lead the Indian team at the World Cup.
