ICC Women's World T20 2016: India narrowly miss out semi-final berth after losing by four runs

Indian women lost their third consecutive match in the World T20

After losing two very close encounters against Pakistan and England, Indian Women had to win today to keep any hopes of qualifyng for the semi-finals alive in the ICC World T20 2016.

However, for that, they needed to come back strongly in their match against the West Indies at the IS Bindra Stadum, Mohali.

But the batters let them down yet again as India crashed out of the World Cup in the group stages for the second time in a row. Earlier, Mithali Raj won the toss and chose to field first.

Stafanie Taylor, the West Indies captain continued her good form as she went on to score 47 in 45 balls. Deandra Dottin was the other player to reach double figures as she scored run-a-ball 45. The Indian bowlers suffocated the West Indies batting in the last two overs and restricted them to 114/8 in 20 overs.

Harmanpreet Kaur and Anuja Patil were the pick of the bowlers for India as they picked up four and three wickets each.

The Indian batting got off to a disastrous start as she was dismissed for a first ball duck. Although quite a few batters got off to a decent start, none of them were able to carry on.

Smriti Mandhana, Veda Krishnamurthy, Anuja Patil and Jhulan Goswami all reached double figures.

At one point, it looked like India will take the game away from West Indies but things changed after Jhulan Goswami was run-out in the 19th over. The lower-order crumbled and West Indies bowlers held their nerves to get their third win in the group stages

Dottin was the pick of the bowlers as her three wickets knocked India out of the World Cup.

So near yet so far.

Brief Scores: West Indies Women 114/8, 20 overs (Taylor 47, Dottin 45, Harmanpreet 4/23, Patil 3/16) beat Indian Women 111/9, 20 overs (Patil 26, Goswami 25, Dottin 3-16) by three runs.
