ICC World T20 2016: India-Pakistan match to coincide with the Earth Hour
The mother-of-all-clashes is set to take place tomorrow at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata as arch-rivals India and Pakistan square off against each other in the ICC T20 World Cup 2016. However, there is a twist in the tale.
The millions of viewers who are eagerly waiting to catch the live action of the high-octane clash on their television sets will be disappointed to know that the timing of the high-voltage clash coincides with Earth Hour. So it’s like horns of a dilemma for them. On one side, they know the importance of the Earth Hour and on the other hand, they cannot miss the marquee clash.
During the Earth Hour, electricity is switched off for an hour. It is a worldwide movement that tries to unite people to protect the planet and is organised by World Wildlife Fund (WWF). It tries to engage a massive mainstream community on a plethora of environmental issues. Earth Hour was famously started as a lights-off event in Sydney, Australia in 2007.
The timings clash with each other
The high-voltage encounter is scheduled to be held from 7.30 p.m Indian Standard Time while the Earth Hour is going to be observed on that day from 8.30 p.m. to 9.30 p.m Indian Standard Time. So it’s some sort of an anti-climax as the timings clash with each other.
India with their backs against the wall after their defeat in the first game against New Zealand will look to bounce back in the game against Pakistan. A defeat in this game would see them crash out of the tournament which will be another anti-climax as the fans in India eagerly want their team to do well at the mega event.
Pakistan, on the other hand, will look to break its jinx against India in the World Cups. They have never managed to beat India in any World Cup in both the formats. After comprehensively beating Bangladesh in their opening match, Pakistan is looking forward to carrying that winning momentum into the game against India to upstage their archrivals for the first time in a world event.
According to pundits, there is no bigger match than India-Pakistan on this earth. Reputations go for a toss in this sort of a clash and the pressure in such a game is unthinkable. Whichever team handles the pressure well, will come out trumps in this encounter.
However, the issue of Earth Hour is important as well. It will be interesting to see what the viewers are going to do in this sort of a situation.
